Curt Schilling – out
ByCurt Schilling is calling it quits. I’ve never been that big of a fan of his, I think he is kind of a loudmouth, but he had some great seasons and some fabulous games. His bloody sock game puts him in the Hall of Fame by itself. But what he really changed in my opinion was communication with the fans. Curt Schilling’s blog at 38pitches.weei.com was the first very honest, very open blog. He put information on there about his contract, what he thought of other players and information that you would never imagine from an athlete on their blog.
And many have followed. Shaquille Oneal uses twitter to connect with his fans including meeting up with fans and giving away tickets. Gilbert Arenas has spent a lot of time blogging and making some crazy statements that have upset coaches, teammates and especially journalists. It is cool to get the unvarnished, un edited ramblings from athletes. That is where we will miss Curt as much as on the field.
